You don't need to be an artist to incorporate simple icons in your meetings. The point is to make meaning that others can understand, not to be the next Michelangelo!
Here are instructions for drawing 5 simple icons and some ideas of how to use them. Once you get the basics down, you can customize them in any way you like. Remember to be gentle with yourself and have fun!

Light bulbs can be used to symbolize ideas, thinking, and inspiration. You can add an exclamation mark inside instead of the squiggle for even more impact.

Use puzzle pieces to represent working together and solving problems. Puzzle pieces are all needed for a whole, so they can symbolize ideas, steps in a process, or people in an organization.

Letters are so easy to draw and are easily recognizable. They can be used to convey ideas of communication and staying in touch. You can add symbols to the envelope to hint at what is inside, or add an "e" to represent email.

Our beautiful home, the earth, can be drawn with just a few simple lines. You can strive for some accuracy in the land masses, or you can just do abstract squiggles and people will get the idea. If you want to go one step further, you can add a base and make it into a globe! The earth is a useful symbol of togetherness, sustainability, or anything global.

Our final icon is a compass. The compass helps you find your way, so it is a great symbol for planning and staying on track. Once you know how to draw a compass, you can easily draw a clock as well.
I hope you found these icons easy and fun to draw. Try adding one to a whiteboard or flipchart to add more meaning and understanding to your next meeting, and let me know how it goes!
Of course if you prefer that someone else do the drawing at your next big meeting, you may want to hire a graphic recorder like me. Click here to book a free consultation!
